Ah, the eternal battle of keeping your kid or kids entertained is a neverending one.  If you stay at home, your house becomes ever more messy with each passing hour. Here’s our list of places and activities to keep your kids entertained.

Visit a Park

Greenville has an insane amount of parks all over the county. Pick a new one your kids have never been to before and explore what they have to offer. Herdklotz park is one of our favorites, and it’s built on the property where the old Hopewell Sanitarium (tuberculosis hospital) once stood, so you can tell your kids it’s haunted.

Visit a Farm

Awhile back, we visited Split Creek Farm in Anderson, which has a large herd of goats, along with a few pigs, chickens, dogs, cats, a horse, and donkey. They’re all friendly, and many of them free roam around the property, allowing you to get up close and pet them. And they’re open 7 days a week.

Visit a Brewery

You have a baby… in a bar. Breweries are typically quite a bit different than your run of the mill bar and are usually more family, and dog-friendly than the everyday watering hole. We’ve been to all the breweries below, and everyone brings their kids. Birds Fly South is especially great because of the large, fenced in grassy area out front, where parents can sip on a cold beer but keep a watchful eye on their kids.

Visit a Childen’s Museum

The Children’s Museum is an obvious and excellent first choice for kids – it’s large enough to keep them occupied for hours. They often have classes and workshops for kids, and honestly, it’s fun and interesting for adults too. Consider buying an annual pass and making regular trips there.

Visit a Trampoline Park

These are great for letting your kids work out their excess energy, and parents can typically grab a seat and watch their kids drain their batteries. Sky Zone even offers a Parents Night Out every Friday Night for $25 per kid that includes three hours of jumping, pizza, drinks and games so parents can have a date night.

Find the Mice on Main

You’ve no doubt spotted one along main street downtown, the adorable bronze mouse statues make for an exciting scavenger hunt for your little ones – pull up the mice on main website on your phone for clues as to where to look next, and there is plenty of child-friendly entertainment along main street, ending up at falls park.

Make Something at Home

Kids love making stuff, Pinterest is a great place to research simple things for kids to make. My daughter loves making homemade slime and stress balls, both of which can be done very inexpensively – but i’d recommend letting this activity go on outside, as it can be very messy.

The great thing about keeping kids entertained is that it’s easy – they have imaginations far beyond most adults. There’s an empty lot behind our house with some piles of dirt and my Daughter loves playing on the “Dirt Hills” with her friends. They’ll take an old snow sled and slide down it, or pretend it’s a castle. It’s amazing what they can imagine from a simple pile of dirt. What else do you do to keep your kids entertained?
